"Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life"

MY REFLECTIONS

A year ago, I picked up this book hoping to find my purpose. While I didn't immediately identify my ikigai, I realized today that I've subconsciously adopted many of the book's key lessons.

Stay Active In the Mind: Thanks to my brother, I discovered Udemy and completed 15 short online courses over the past one year. I've even subscribed to access more courses at a lower cost.

Take It Slow: After 20 years of driving, I started using public transport. Slower commutes have allowed me to observe others and enjoy moments of peace, something I couldn't do while driving.

Surround Yourself with Good Friends: During my break, I organized social gatherings with ex-colleagues and started regular mahjong sessions with friends and family. These gatherings have been a joyful part of my life.

Smile and Acknowledge People: I've made an effort to smile more, even at strangers. It's uplifting for both me and those I encounter, helping me become more approachable.

Reconnect with Nature: Beyond neighborhood parks, I've explored various parks across the island. These visits clear my mind and provide a calming effect.

Give Thanks: I started a Gratitude Journal on my iPhone two months ago, noting three things I'm grateful for each day. This practice has made me appreciate my blessings more.

Live in the Moment: I meditate every morning for five minutes using a guided app, helping me stay focused and present.

Follow Your Curiosity: I signed up for a gig job in a new field out of curiosity. Despite it not being a popular job, I'm looking forward to an exciting experience.

Eat Light to Live Longer: I started a home-cooked high-protein diet a month ago, which has shown more visible results as compared to my fitness regime. I shed some kilos overall and has a smaller waistline now.

Regular Physical Activity: I committed to a cardio and strength training regime on alternate days since December last year. Seven months in, I'm proud of my consistency.

Find Flow in Everything You Do: I discovered a state of flow in video editing. The deep focus and joy I feel when completing a video is incredibly enriching.

While I can't pinpoint which habit above brings me the most happiness, I believe they all play a crucial role in my life. This book is a keeper and I will always go back to read it. Get yours here: https://amzn.to/4cDy79y
